The launch on Tuesday 19th January was attended by over 70 senior charity figures including chairs, CEOs and trustees, CSR private sector professionals with guest speakers including: Neal Green a Senior Policy Advisor at the Charity Commission, Ruth Lesirge the Founder of the Association of Chairs and Ian White and Srabani Sen OBE, both Programme Leaders of the Advanced Trustee Programme.
The programme which delivers its first session on March 22nd has been developed to prepare, support and provide on-going assistance to trustees, ensuring their effectiveness and lasting impact.
The Advanced Trustee Programme covers regulatory areas of responsibility comprehensively, but uniquely also ‘softer’ skills critical to maximising performance as a board member. These include organisational culture; strategy and impact; protecting personal and organisational reputation; diversity in the boardroom and how to work in a voluntary team for example – skills that have been identified as integral to helping both understand the role of a trustee and helping maximise performance as a board member.
The programme also includes an entire module dedicated to personal impact and individual learning delivered through peer to peer learning and coaching sessions; a learning innovation for trustees in the charity sector.
Nigel Kippax, Managing Director of Charity Leaders believes it is “essential that we invest more in improving the leadership of our charities – and that starts with the trustees. As such we are delighted to launch the Trustee Academy’s Advanced Trustee Programme, the first accredited programme to support the trustee through their preparation, integration and on-going personal development. We believe this will make a major contribution to the success of our charities which deliver such a huge impact in our communities – an impact which is only set to increase given the political backdrop.”
Emphasising the importance of the programme for the sector, Jerome Goodluck, Business Development Manager at ILM said “we believe this programme will be a significant advancement in the development of charity trustees’ skills, as well as making the prospect of being a trustee more attractive to a wider range of professionals. We are delighted to be working with Charity Leaders to support the development of great leadership within the charity sector though their advanced trustee programme.”
Charity Leaders which forms part of the Charity People Group, is a team of leading third sector minds with proven experts in leadership development, organisational change and effectiveness, strategy development, governance and law for charities and social enterprises, providing guidance that transforms organisations.
